If you select the first Google Adword that pops up and judge the house cleaning company by the quality of their website then you probably don’t. In this article we will explain why and offer an alternative option.
Many house cleaning shoppers make their decision based upon things that don’t matter. For example, good maid services in Pittsburgh usually don’t know how to make fancy websites. That’s because there is no real correlation between a fancy website and quality house cleaning. In fact just the opposite exists, the fancier the website the further away that person is from really cleaning houses.
Do you let a fancy website sway your opinion of a maid service in Pittsburgh?
We have been in the Pittsburgh house cleaning business for over 10 years and I just learned what a backlink was in late 2016 and I have a Bachelor’s of Science Degree which I affectionately call my BS degree. If I didn’t know about SEO how many maids that do not have degrees do? How about the great ones that spend every day cleaning for a living to go home and raise a family. Do you think she is blogging to get back links to her website?
Once I realized how important backlinks were to coming up first in Google Searches for house cleaning services, I checked how many backlinks my main site had on a back-link site-checker = 1. Then I checked my franchise competitor’s main site = 20,000+. Does that mean they clean houses better than us? No way.
Because it costs over $9 PER CLICK to come up 1st on Google Adwords for the keyword “Maid Services”. How many clicks does it take to get a buyer for house cleaning services? That depends, but its a lot and someone has to pay for all these clicks. No matter how you slice it, in the end, it is the consumer who pays.
I have been told that I need to pony up big bucks if I want to compete with the big boys. Great logic if you are an advertising salesman. Not so great, if you are a small house cleaning business built on long-term relationships, manageable growth and slimmer profit margins. We want to continue to remain an affordable option in the Pittsburgh marketplace. We won’t be the cheapest, because any goof with a mop and a bucket can under bid house cleaning services, but we won’t gouge you to like most of our Pittsburgh franchise competitors.
Cleaning houses is what we do and we are damn good at it too. Here is proof:
4.7 Stars on Home Advisor with 38 reviews
A Rated on Angie’s List with 18 reviews
I won’t pay the BBB over $700 yr. to become an accredited business for the same reason I won’t pay Angie’s List over $2,000 yr. to be a sponsored provider or a web designer $5,000 for a site or Google Adwords $1,000’s a month, because that is ridiculous. Is this really what motivates the house cleaning buyer?
I hope not, but it appears to be working. Customers see bogus endorsements by profit seeking businesses as a sign of credibility. We hope you realize all those things are obtainable by any company willing to spend enough money. Our rankings on the other hand were earned because i didn’t know that I was supposed to solicit positive reviews from friends, family and happy customers. This influx of positive reviews drown out negative reviews. Just like the influx of big maid advertising budgets drown out the smaller companies you really want to be working with.
If you believe in the BBB then check this out: BBB graded our business an A+!
We started in this business because we wanted to be a family. We had two children who we decided would come first in our lives. We quit our professional jobs and started cleaning houses. We took turns raising our kids while the other cleaned. From these humble beginnings, we have grown to 20 employees with 100’s of regular, happy customers without ever getting a business loan.
We allow our cleaners to design their own schedules and we insure that they have a healthy work / life balance. We put their family first. When you tell a loving mother she can put her daughter first that means a lot. When you design a schedule that allows her to put her daughter on the bus in the morning and then pick her up again in the afternoon if only she wows the clients in between, you have set the stage for some awesome house cleanings.
From cleaning houses ourselves, to raising children here in our schools we are truly a member of the community. We also like to think of ourselves as a living example of the American dream. We decided what we wanted and we worked hard to be awesome at it. We know we still have a long way to go . . . about 19,999 back links to be exact, but we are not worried. We are the better service at a better price. We grow our business organically with word of mouth and referrals. Our previous customers are our biggest advertising source. These customers refer us without any inducement or bribe.
Here are some specifics to back up our claim of being better:
A smile and a warm, positive personality is a requirement of employment with us. Our maids are happy because they are happy people. We won’t hire them if they are not. If there appears to be long-term career potential we will run the background check and get references. If that pans out we will hire the maid and give her a chance to prove herself.
We spend weeks one-on-one providing real training. We teach them how to make intelligent decisions not just follow a checklist. It takes a little longer but you will see the difference.
From designing their own schedule to defining their service areas, our maids have it made. We literally kiss their ass because they are awesome at what they do and we make every effort to let them know we appreciate them. If they can deliver by making the clients happy, we deliver and make them happy.
We clean the old fashion way, with a lot of love and elbow grease. Proper house cleaning is physical and demanding. We wash floors on our hands and knees and consider it our job to clean under and behind your stuff. Our training system teaches impact cleaning. To our knowledge it is different than any other company. Our competitors rely on a checklist to dictate to the maid what to do. We reverse the relationship. We believe the maid is the key that unlocks great house cleaning.
The checklist has value and we also have a checklist to clarify client expectations but our maids could get in trouble if they did not clean something that was NOT on our checklist. That’s because the first rule of impact cleaning is to do what the client will notice first. If they left your son’s sticky hand print on your gloss-sheen painted wall we would say she messed up because that would have made a huge impact and therefore should be done even though wall washing was not on the work order and no one asked us to wash the walls. Our competitors would tell you that was not on the checklist, ignore it and not think twice about it. See the difference?
Great cleanings can’t happen without a dedicated group of support staff like office workers, schedulers, inspectors, trainers and managers. We offer every employee the chance to grow in pay and responsibility if they are excelling in their current position. We genuinely like working together and truly have each other’s back. With this behind the scenes group of leaders driving cleaning excellence we are doing great work for great families in our local community.
