Does anyone really believe these best of the best business awards?
We have found that when we spend a lot of money with a company we get awards from that company. It happens so much we have developed a working theory that most times these types of awards are just gimmicks and are usually given to the companies that spend the most advertising dollars. We don’t believe most of them have any practical merit for a potential customer. They really are not useful for evaluating the ability of a potential business to meet your needs.
We don’t know anything about this company that gave us the award but according to their website, they use their secret formula to select the top 3 businesses by category in every area. This would be an exhausting, almost impossible task if you really think about it so obviously, it has to be automated. We never paid to advertise with them and we were never contacted by them . . . that we know of . . . but I suspect they can track how much companies spend on online advertising because it demonstrates they have advertising budgets that make them a good candidate for the product or service the awarding company sells or is affiliated with. As an industry leader in greater Pittsburgh house cleaning, with multiple offices, and over 40 maids on staff, we probably spend more on advertising than our competition. However, we spend less than 1% of our total revenue on new client advertising in an industry that averages 10%. That’s because most of our new customers are referrals or find us organically. When we spend money online, it is to attract and retain our amazing staff! Anyways, sorry to be so cynical. We do sincerely appreciate the award.
